Players follow the exploits of the pirate Guybrush Threepwood as he attempts escape from a giant sea monster (i.e., a manatee's stomach) and searches for an ancient relic called La Esponja Grande. This adventure game involves interacting with pirates; wading through a "stomach-prison"; and following the seafaring storyline, which is infused with irreverent dialogue. One bit of irreverence involves a protracted back-and-forth between Guybrush and a treasure hunter: "What's next, a stool sample? . . . No, you look like a man of firm constitution." The comic mischief continues when a character exits the manatee; says, "Just a quick trip up the blowhole"; then realizes that Manatees don't have blowholes. In one sequence, the central character inhabits the body of a voodoo priestess whose exaggerated-sized breasts can and do jiggle. The expletive "a*s" is used once in the dialogue.
