Rating Summary
This is an action platformer in which a bobcat-like creature (Ratchet) and his robotic sidekick (Clank) must prevent a galaxy-wide disaster. As players traverse through colorful alien worlds, they use an assortment of “cartoony” weapons (e.g., gravity bombs, oversized laser blasters, rocket launchers) to destroy robots and bug-like aliens. Most enemies disappear amid colorful bursts of light and/or scattered nuts and bolts; a few creatures emit splashes of green goo or slime when defeated. In some sequences, players use a crosshair target to shoot down enemy spaceships. During the course of the game, comical remarks can be heard in the dialogue (e.g., “I had low self-esteem, bad breath, and a thing for ladies' undergarments,” “[A] key defect in . . . the Personal Hygienator caused severe irritation to sensitive body areas . . .”). In one cutscene, a robot emits flatulence and says, “Excuse me, I think I just blew another vacuum tube.” Another sequence contains language censored by an audible bleep (“All right, just what the [bleep] is going on?”).
